The Department of Radiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville invites applications for one-year research assistantships in the department of radiology. The application is only open to:

  • Recent medical graduate (within the past five years)
  • Either USA-based on a visa that permits work, or a foreign-trained graduate who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applications from foreign citizens without a USA connection will NOT be considered.

The ideal candidate will have strong interests in computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, three-dimensional printing and segmentation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, clinical trials, and patient outcomes-based retrospective/prospective interventional and diagnostic radiology research. The Department of Radiology is located at the Clinical Center in downtown Jacksonville, FL.

Research Assistants are eligible for a stipend, with the opportunity for additional travel and conference reimbursements. Each will be expected to collaborate with Radiology clinical faculty, fellows, and residents in various projects throughout the year, including but not limited to educational exhibits, manuscript preparation/editing, statistical analysis, database management, library and online database searches, IRB applications, clinical trial regulatory work/consenting of study subjects, research project design, as well as grant searches/preparation. Research Assistants will be expected to work approximately 40 hours a week onsite. Each will be provided dedicated workspace with a desktop computer in the Radiology Research Suite. They will report to the Research Manager who will serve as liaison with clinicians to distribute duties, find funding opportunities, develop research ideas, set project deadlines, prepare activity reports, track task progress, maintain research activity databases, and provide training with hospital systems and software, as well as guidance with academic writing and other day-to-day expectations.

Employment offers for each assistantship will be based on the applicant’s academic achievements, research background, and their potential to advance the department’s research portfolio. Each research assistant will be expected to provide the department with fresh perspectives, play a role in department activities, and give a 30-45 minute department talk during their tenure.

The Department of Radiology, within the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville provides imaging services at UF Health Jacksonville, a 695-bed tertiary care teaching hospital near downtown; a new state-of-the-art, 100-bed hospital, UF Health North; as well as Emerson Medical Plaza, a multiservice health care center on Jacksonville's Southside. Our department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, with multiple GE, Canon and Siemens MRI units, including an open MRI at UF Health North, dual-energy CT scanners, ultrasound, SPECT, PET, MR and image-guided interventional procedures – all of which are integrated into our new VISAGE PACS system. We also have satellite imaging clinics at Wildlight, Baymeadows, and JTB Kernan, which expand our clinical and research imaging capabilities. Lastly, the Department of Radiology sponsors a four-year, ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology residency program, as well as several fellowships.
